TREAT YOURSELF TO A ROMANTIC DINNER IN SPLIT

Nestled along the sun-drenched shores of the Adriatic Sea, Split offers a unique blend of historic heritage, cobbled streets, and breathtaking coastal views.

Steeped in over 1,700 years of history, this Adriatic city is renowned not only for its Roman landmarks and vibrant atmosphere but also for its romantic charm, revealed around every winding alley.

Surrounded by ancient stone walls that tell centuries of stories, Split provides the perfect backdrop for unforgettable dining experiences. The city’s romantic restaurants make the most of their medieval surroundings, creating intimate and elegant settings where couples can savour delicious cuisine while immersed in the city’s timeless atmosphere.

Fig Split

This restaurant is incredibly easy to fit into your itinerary as it is located inside Diocletian’s Palace, yet tucked away from the crowds. The best of both worlds.

It is especially famous for its vegetarian and healthy brunches, served until 12:45 pm. Beautifully presented, colourful and full of flavour, they’re a real delight.

The venue itself is full of charm, both indoors and outdoors, with one of Split’s most romantic courtyards for a candlelit dinner.

Dinner also includes meat dishes, but if you’re craving a mixed grill, you’ll probably be happier elsewhere.

Kat’s Kitchen Deli Split

Not tempted by these colourful and mouth-watering plates? We certainly were! This restaurant is well known for its vibrant breakfast menu—the perfect way to start the day.

Fresh, healthy, varied and colourful.

They also serve excellent brunches and lunches, making it an ideal stop after a morning exploring Split.

Konoba Varos

Konoba Varos

Here’s a traditional Croatian tavern that immediately caught our attention.

It serves an excellent selection of authentic Croatian dishes, including ćevapčići (grilled sausages), pljeskavica (the Balkan-style burger), pašticada, seafood risottos, and the famous Peka.

Peka is a traditional slow-cooked dish prepared under a cast-iron or clay bell covered with hot embers. Meat, fish or seafood are cooked gently for several hours, somewhat similar to a tagine.

Please note that Peka must be ordered for at least four people and reserved at least three hours in advance to allow enough cooking time.

Ciri Biri Bela

Ciri Biri Bela

Located in the charming courtyard of a historic Dalmatian house just behind the theatre, this family-run restaurant also operates its own farm outside the city. Many ingredients therefore come directly from the farm or nearby local producers.

Breakfast is served daily from 8 am until 2 pm, with plenty of options for every taste.

At lunchtime you’ll find salads, sandwiches and delicious flatbreads. The evening menu becomes more sophisticated, offering charcuterie and cheese boards as well as around thirty hot and cold tapas designed for sharing—or not!

Apetit Restaurant

Apetit Restaurant

Located in Split’s Old Town opposite the 15th-century Papalić Palace, Apetit is a modern and elegant Mediterranean restaurant.

The spacious interior includes several dining rooms, including a more intimate upstairs area.

Expect beef and tuna tartare, antipasti platters for two, seafood platters, homemade pasta, black squid ink risotto, several truffle dishes and a three-course daily menu served until 5 pm for around €20 (ask your waiter).

Lola Restaurant

Hidden in a quiet side street just behind Split railway station, Lola Restaurant serves high-quality cuisine prepared with fresh local ingredients.

The dishes are simple, colourful and full of flavour.

We highly recommend the traditional Croatian cuttlefish risotto (€15) as well as the grilled bluefin tuna served with julienned vegetables (€25).

Restaurant Adriatic

Adriatic Restaurant

We selected this restaurant for two reasons.

Firstly, its superb location on Split harbour makes it perfect for lunch after exploring Marjan Hill while enjoying views over the Adriatic.

Secondly, the owners also run the nearby Skipper Pizzeria, giving you two dining options depending on your budget and preferences.

The menu features generous seafood platters with shellfish, monkfish and salmon, black truffle pasta, seafood pasta with monkfish and the traditional Dalmatian pašticada.

Portofino

Portofino Restaurant

Located directly beside Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Portofino is one of Split’s most popular restaurants, so advance booking is highly recommended.

The menu includes octopus salad, soups, pasta, risottos, seafood and meat dishes.

Steak lovers should not miss the spectacular 1.25 kg 28-day dry-aged Irish Black Angus Tomahawk steak for two.

Lucica

Overlooking the Spinut Marina on the northern side of Marjan Hill, Lučica is away from the tourist crowds and makes an excellent stop during a hike around Marjan.

If you don’t plan to hike, the restaurant is about a 30-minute walk from Diocletian’s Palace or a short bus ride followed by a 10-minute walk.

It’s one of the few restaurants in Split serving authentic Peka, alongside an excellent selection of Croatian meats, fresh fish and generous salads, including their popular beef salad.

Sug Restaurant

Sug Restaurant

Just two minutes from Diocletian’s Palace, Šug offers a pleasant dining room and lovely terrace.

Although it doesn’t have a Michelin star, it has been awarded a Bib Gourmand, recognising restaurants offering excellent value for money.

The refined cuisine is beautifully presented. Lunchtime is particularly affordable, with many dishes under €15, including shrimp and truffle pasta, beef salad, lasagne and grilled tuna.

For adventurous diners, the chef also offers a surprise tasting menu (€90, excluding wine). Personally, we like knowing what’s coming for that kind of budget—but everyone is different!

Fantazija Kitchen & Wine

Located in the heart of Split, Fantazija Kitchen & Wine offers generous portions without compromising on quality.

The décor is original and the atmosphere warm and welcoming.

To give you an idea of prices, the excellent tuna tataki costs around €20, while the fresh truffle beef tartare is approximately €24.

Zrno Soli

Zrno Soli

Overlooking Split Marina, Zrno Soli is one of our absolute favourites.

The Michelin-recognised cuisine alone would justify the visit, but everything else is equally impressive: beautifully plated dishes, delicate flavour combinations and outstanding presentation.

Simply excellence at its finest.

And as if that weren’t enough, you’ll also enjoy magnificent sea views from the restaurant’s terrace.

Treat yourselfn you won’t regret it.
