When should you visit Brno for a romantic getaway?

Brno saisons

Brno is charming throughout the year, with each season offering its own unique experiences.

Spring, from March to May: gardens in bloom, mild temperatures and local festivals create an enchanting atmosphere. It is an ideal time for romantic walks.

Summer, from June to August: longer days give you more time to discover the historical monuments and enjoy the city’s outdoor cafés. Summer festivals add a vibrant touch to the city.

Autumn, from September to November: autumn colours make the city even more romantic. It is the perfect season for exploring museums and sampling local specialities.

Winter, from December to February: Christmas markets and illuminated streets create a magical atmosphere. The landscapes and castles can look even more romantic beneath a light covering of snow.

How do you get to Brno?

There are no direct flights between France and Brno. If you travel through Czechia, you will need to go via Prague, but Vienna is more convenient because it is closer. There is also a direct bus from Vienna Airport, VIE, which drops you outside the Grand Hotel in central Brno in approximately 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Whether you are travelling from Prague, Vienna or Bratislava, Brno is well served by public transport. Trains and buses provide convenient ways to reach this Moravian gem. The train journey takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes from Vienna, 2 hours and 30 minutes from Prague and between 1 hour 40 minutes and 1 hour 45 minutes from Bratislava.

From Prague, the train is often the fastest option and gives you an opportunity to enjoy the Czech countryside along the way. If you prefer the comfort of travelling by car, the well-maintained roads make for a pleasant journey. The bus takes approximately 30 minutes longer.

Combining Vienna and Brno for a double romantic weekend can be an excellent idea. To save time, you can create a triangular itinerary: travel by bus from Vienna Airport to Brno, spend two or three days in Brno, take the train from Brno to Vienna railway station, spend another two or three days in Vienna and then travel from central Vienna back to the airport.

Which romantic excursions can you take outside Brno?

If you have a third day available during your city break in Brno, here are three day trips that we suggest and that you can book with us. They will give you an insight into the many other treasures and landscapes that the Moravian region has to offer.

Enjoy a Moravian wine tasting

Vignobles moraves

Moravian wines are rarely found in French supermarkets or specialist wine shops. Our first suggested excursion is to spend a full day or half a day discovering and visiting cellars and vineyards while enjoying a few tastings. We can combine smaller wine cellars with larger estates, with plenty of flexibility.

The small wine-producing town of Mikulov is particularly renowned for its Baroque castle, charming streets and wine cellars. Enjoy a wine tasting in a romantic setting.

Our other, more historical excursion takes you to the site of the famous Battle of Austerlitz, combined with a visit to the castle where Napoleon is believed to have stayed.

Explore the Moravian Karst and Punkva Caves

Approximately one hour’s drive north of Brno, you will find the Moravian Karst, also known in Czech as Moravský kras, a karst region located north of Brno in Czechia.

The Moravian Karst is characterised by unique karst formations, including caves, sinkholes, chasms and limestone cliffs. These geological formations were created over time through the erosion of limestone by underground water.

The region is home to several spectacular caves that are open to the public, including the Punkva Caves, Punkevní jeskyně, and the Macocha Abyss, which are among the most famous. These caves contain impressive rock formations, stalactites and stalagmites, as well as underground lakes.

Explore the underground passages and take a boat trip along the subterranean river. The illuminated rock formations create a magical atmosphere, making this a magnificent natural site to discover with your other half.

Combine Brno with a city break in Vienna!

Vienne Autriche

In addition to these excursions, do not forget that Brno is only 1 hour and 30 minutes by train from the imperial capital, Vienna. It is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a double city break!

Between discovering the historic centre, visiting Špilberk Castle on the hill, exploring the different museums and enjoying opportunities for wine tasting in the city, you certainly will not have time to become bored in Brno.

With its historic charm, cultural attractions and romantic atmosphere, Brno is an ideal destination for a romantic getaway. Start planning your weekend now and allow yourselves to be charmed by the beauty of this Moravian gem.
