Rimini: romance and charm on the Adriatic Coast
Treat yourselves and get away more often!
Welcome to Rimini, a gem nestled on Italy’s Adriatic Coast, where romance meets seaside pleasures and captivating history. Immerse yourselves in the enchanting atmosphere of this Italian coastal city, explore its picturesque streets, savour its exquisite cuisine and discover the hidden treasures that make Rimini so unique.
Best known as a family holiday destination on the Adriatic Coast, Rimini reveals a more intimate and romantic side when you take the time to uncover its hidden charms, and that is exactly what we invite you to do.
When is the best time to visit Rimini for a romantic getaway?
Our advice to make the most of your time would be to combine Rimini with a city break in Bologna.
Air connections to Bologna are generally much more convenient, while Rimini Airport has a limited selection of international routes. Rimini is only around 1 hour 30 minutes from Bologna by train or bus, making it easy to combine the two cities in one romantic getaway for twice the enjoyment!
If you follow our advice, the best time to visit Rimini will depend both on when you plan to explore Bologna and on the seasonal flight routes available from your departure airport. Some flights to Bologna only operate during the warmer months, while winter journeys may involve fewer options or significantly higher fares.
How to reach Rimini city centre from Bologna
Nothing could be easier. Simply board a train at Bologna Centrale station and you will arrive in central Rimini around 1 hour 30 minutes later. Rimini railway station is located right in the city centre, only five minutes from the historic district.
If you arrive at Bologna Marconi Airport and are travelling directly to Rimini, a fast shuttle bus runs from the airport to Rimini in approximately 1 hour 30 minutes. A one way ticket costs €25 per person.
If you arrive early, you can leave your luggage inside the Bike Park at Rimini station. This shop offers bicycle rentals as well as a luggage storage service.
Choose an intimate and welcoming place to stay in Rimini
In Rimini, you can of course stay in a hotel in the historic centre or near the seafront. However, for a truly charming setting just a short walk from the old town, we think Borgo San Giuliano is an even better choice for a romantic weekend in Rimini.
Located on the other side of the ancient Roman Tiberius Bridge, this picturesque neighbourhood is guaranteed to win you over!
You could also choose a hotel or apartment with sea views and a private hot tub, another wonderful option for your romantic weekend in Rimini.

Immerse yourselves in Roman culture
Rimini has a rich Roman history. Located on the Via Flaminia, the ancient road connecting Rome to Rimini, the city is also home to a site unlike any other in the world: the Surgeon’s House, or Domus del Chirurgo, right in the historic centre.
Discovered during archaeological excavations in Rimini’s old town in the 1980s, the Surgeon’s House is an ancient Roman residence dating from the second century AD. It is believed to have belonged to a Roman surgeon or a wealthy family.
The site is particularly important because it provides a fascinating glimpse into everyday life in ancient Rome. The well preserved remains include the layout of the house, furniture and decorative features. Visitors can see wall frescoes, mosaics, architectural elements and everyday objects offering valuable insights into the art, architecture and Roman culture of the period.
The Surgeon’s House is particularly remarkable for its discoveries relating to Roman medicine and surgery. Excavations uncovered bronze and iron surgical instruments, remains of medicinal plants and frescoes depicting medical and surgical scenes. This makes it one of the very few archaeological sites specifically connected with Roman medicine.
You will need to purchase your ticket from the City Museum and begin with the archaeological remains located outside the building. You can then continue your visit inside the museum, where the surgical instruments are displayed.
Are you both Federico Fellini fans?
If you are both cinema lovers, you will find traces of Rimini born filmmaker Federico Fellini throughout the city.
His presence can be felt in Borgo San Giuliano, at the Fulgor Cinema and in Piazza dei Sogni, but the most impressive tribute to him can be found inside Castel Sismondo, the castle standing in the heart of the city.
Located in Rimini’s historic centre, Castel Sismondo was built in the fifteenth century by Sigismondo Pandolfo Malatesta, Lord of Rimini. It is considered an important example of Italian Renaissance military architecture.
Inside Castel Sismondo, you will find vaulted rooms, inner courtyards and a monumental staircase. The walls were once decorated with frescoes and ornamental features, although most of these have disappeared over time. The castle also contains a Knights’ Hall decorated with frescoes depicting the Malatesta family coat of arms.
Since 1999, Castel Sismondo has been transformed into a museum dedicated to Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini, his life and his work.
Its collection includes personal belongings, photographs, drawings and original costumes used in Fellini’s films. Visitors can also explore the castle’s various rooms, including former prison cells transformed into exhibition spaces, as well as its inner courtyards and monumental staircases.
Visit this miniature park for a romantic journey through Italy and beyond!
Italia in Miniatura is a large theme park featuring dozens of miniature reproductions of monuments from Italian and other European cities.
You can even sail together in a little gondola and feel as though you are in Venice for fifteen minutes! This attraction is definitely worth visiting, and you can easily spend two or three hours exploring everything it has to offer. The park can be reached from central Rimini on bus number 8.
Take a sunset stroll along the beach
With approximately ten kilometres of fine sandy beaches, Rimini provides an idyllic backdrop for a romantic sunset stroll along the Lungomare. Walk hand in hand, listen to the gentle sound of the waves and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere.
Admire the sunset
Watching the sunset from Rimini’s Tiberius Bridge is a wonderfully romantic experience, with spectacular views of the city bathed in the warm colours of dusk.
At the end of the day, the soft light of the setting sun creates a magical atmosphere, illuminating the colourful façades of the surrounding buildings and reflecting on the water. One of the best places to enjoy the view is the observation platform on Via Marecchia, on the Borgo San Giuliano side of the bridge, approximately 200 metres to your right.
Enjoy this peaceful moment as you stroll across the bridge, creating romantic memories while admiring the natural spectacle of the sun setting over the beautiful city of Rimini.
You can also watch the sunset from other locations around Rimini, including the beach itself, from the top of the Ferris wheel known as “Eye Love Rimini”, or from the rooftop of this hotel.
Explore Rimini by night
Exploring Rimini at night is a delightful experience, with illuminated historical sites and a lively atmosphere in both the historic centre and the Borgo San Giuliano neighbourhood. We offer a private evening tour of Rimini so that you can enjoy the city at its best.
The narrow streets of central Rimini, its small squares, shops and cafés give the city a completely different atmosphere after dark.
One of Rimini’s most magnificent sights at night is the Grand Hotel Rimini. Famous for its Art Nouveau architecture, this historic hotel looks particularly majestic and elegant when illuminated.
Several other monuments and buildings are also worth seeing after dark. The ancient Tiberius Bridge and the Arch of Augustus, one of the oldest surviving Roman triumphal arches, create a magical atmosphere in the old town.
The city’s squares and Castel Sismondo are also magnificent at night.
You can finish your evening stroll on the beach, gazing at the stars while relaxing over one final drink.
