When is the best time to visit Seville for a romantic getaway?

The best time to visit Seville for a romantic weekend is generally in spring, from March to May, or autumn, from September to November. During these seasons, temperatures are pleasant, with sunny days and mild evenings, creating the perfect romantic atmosphere for exploring the city hand in hand.

Spring brings the city’s magnificent gardens into bloom, including María Luisa Park, while autumn offers milder temperatures after Seville’s intense summer heat. These seasons also provide ideal weather conditions for outdoor activities and romantic walks along the Guadalquivir River.

However, if you prefer warmer temperatures, summer may also be an option, but be prepared for extremely hot days! In winter, although temperatures are generally mild compared with other regions, some days can be cooler.

In short, spring and autumn are usually the best seasons for a romantic weekend in Seville. You will avoid the oppressive summer heat while enjoying a perfect balance between pleasant weather and plenty of opportunities to explore.

How do you get to Seville?

Of the three Andalusian cities of Córdoba, Granada and Seville, Seville is the easiest to reach as it has its own international airport, Seville-San Pablo Airport (SVQ). Direct flights are available from several major European cities.

Getting from Seville Airport to the city centre is relatively easy.

  1. Bus: the EA bus service (Especial Aeropuerto) connects the airport with central Seville. It operates every day, with regular departures generally every 15 to 30 minutes. The journey takes approximately 35 minutes and serves several key stops, including Santa Justa railway station, Plaza de Armas and Kansas City Avenue.
  2. Taxi: taxis are available outside the arrivals terminal. The journey to the city centre takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic. Fares are regulated and include an airport surcharge, with the total cost generally ranging from €20 to €30.
  3. Car rental: several car rental companies operate at the airport. Hiring a car can be a good option if you plan to explore the surrounding area or visit other Andalusian cities, although buses and trains are perfectly adequate. The city centre can be reached via the A-4 in approximately 20 minutes.
  4. Ride-hailing services: services such as Uber and Cabify also operate in Seville and can be a convenient alternative to taxis. Cars can be booked through their mobile apps and offer competitive fares.

Which cosy and romantic accommodation should you choose in Seville?

For a romantic weekend in Seville, it is best to stay in a neighbourhood combining charm, romance and easy access to the main attractions.

Santa Cruz

The historic Santa Cruz district is one of Seville’s most romantic neighbourhoods. Its winding streets, charming squares and flower-filled patios create a magical atmosphere. You will also be close to the cathedral, the Alcazar and numerous restaurants.

El Arenal

Located near the cathedral and the Guadalquivir River, El Arenal offers an elegant atmosphere and easy access to iconic landmarks. You can enjoy romantic walks along the river and explore the historic centre with ease.

Triana

Across the river, Triana is a lively neighbourhood with a distinctive atmosphere. Its cobbled streets, bustling squares and traditional tapas bars add something special to your stay. You can also enjoy beautiful views of Seville from this side of the river.

Palacio Bucarelli

Alfalfa

Close to Plaza del Salvador, Alfalfa is a trendy neighbourhood filled with picturesque shops, cafés and restaurants. It is an excellent choice if you want to stay at the heart of the action while enjoying a romantic atmosphere.

Macarena

The Macarena district offers a more authentic and less touristy atmosphere. You can explore quieter streets, discover local markets and experience a more local side of the city.

Make sure you choose accommodation suited to your preferred style and budget. Charming hotels, boutique hotels and guesthouses abound in these neighbourhoods, offering options for all kinds of romantic getaways.

What can you see and do during a romantic weekend in Seville?

Seville is a magnificent city with plenty of romantic things to enjoy as a couple.

Seville is a fairly large city. To make the most of your time during your romantic weekend, why not explore it at a relaxed pace with a private guided tour?

Discover the Alcazar, the Cathedral and the Giralda

This is the classic tour for first-time visitors who do not want to miss Seville’s essential landmarks. The Alcazar of Seville has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987 because of its exceptional historical and artistic value. It is one of Spain’s most visited monuments, attracting millions of visitors every year. Its beauty and history make it an essential stop during your romantic weekend in the Andalusian capital.

Alcazar cathedrale Giralda

The Alcazar of Seville, known locally as the Real Alcázar de Sevilla, is one of the oldest royal palaces still in use in Europe. It is an architectural masterpiece and a living testament to Andalusia’s rich and complex history.

The Alcazar was initially built as a Moorish fortress in the 11th century, but it was extensively altered and enlarged following the Christian reconquest of Seville in 1248. The palace harmoniously combines Mudéjar, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architectural styles, reflecting the different periods of its history.

Opposite the Alcazar, Seville Cathedral, one of the largest Gothic churches in the world, and its famous Giralda offer breathtaking views over the city.

Discover Andalusian cuisine together

Andalusian cuisine is a true feast for the senses, and Seville, as the capital of Andalusia, is its beating heart. The city offers a wide variety of traditional dishes and tapas reflecting the region’s rich history and cultural diversity.

Manolo Leon Guadalquivir

There are tapas galore and plenty of specialities you should not miss! Jamón Ibérico, thinly sliced Iberian ham, is an essential delicacy. Tortilla Española is a thick omelette made with potatoes and onions, perfect for getting started. Croquetas are crispy croquettes often filled with ham, chicken or cod. Salmorejo is a thick chilled soup made with tomatoes, bread, olive oil and garlic, then garnished with hard-boiled eggs and ham.

In addition to tapas, Seville offers numerous traditional Andalusian dishes worth discovering, including gazpacho, a chilled tomato soup that is perfect on hot summer days, rabo de toro, an oxtail stew slowly cooked until wonderfully tender, and pescaíto frito, fried fish typically served with lemon and peppers in coastal regions.

You can, of course, enjoy all these dishes in restaurants, and we have put together a small selection of romantic places to try.

For a fully immersive experience, visit the local markets where Sevillians shop. Mercado de Triana and Mercado de la Encarnación are ideal places to sample fresh produce, local cheeses and cured meats.

Mercado de Triana: located near Triana Bridge, this traditional market features stalls selling fish, meat, fruit and vegetables.

Mercado de la Encarnación: located beneath the famous “Setas de Sevilla”, this modern market offers a variety of fresh produce and tapas stalls.

Andalusia is also famous for its wines, particularly sherry from the Jerez de la Frontera region.

Vinos de Jerez: discover the different varieties of sherry, from dry Fino to sweet Pedro Ximénez.

Red and white wines: sample the region’s red and white wines, often available in the city’s bodegas and wine bars.

Visit the Alcazar Gardens

In Córdoba, there are the Gardens of the Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos. In Granada, there is the Generalife, and in Seville, there are the Alcazar Gardens. They are among the city’s most precious treasures, offering a haven of peace and beauty at the heart of the historic complex. Extending across several hectares, the gardens combine a variety of landscaping styles that reflect their evolution from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance and beyond.

The gardens harmoniously blend Moorish, Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque styles. Each section reflects a different period in Seville’s history, enriched by the influence of the many rulers who contributed to their creation and embellishment over the centuries.

During your visit, you will wander among patios, gardens and galleries, including the Patio de la Montería, Garden of the Ladies, Garden of the Poets, Maze Garden and elevated Grotto Gallery, which offers panoramic views of the gardens and palace.

Séville

The Alcazar Gardens are famous for their botanical diversity, with palm trees, orange trees, lemon trees, jasmine and numerous exotic and native plants. The intoxicating fragrance of orange blossom and jasmine creates an enchanting atmosphere, particularly in spring.

Water plays an essential role in the design of the gardens. Fountains, ponds and canals not only provide welcome freshness but also create a sense of serenity. The soothing sound of flowing water adds to the meditative atmosphere.

The Alcazar Gardens are the perfect place to relax and escape the bustle of the city. Shaded paths, secluded benches and peaceful corners invite contemplation and romance. This is where history and nature come together to create a unique and memorable experience.

Immerse yourselves in flamenco culture

To explore the richness of Seville’s flamenco culture, do not miss these essential places.

The Flamenco Museum, located in the Santa Cruz district, offers exhibitions, performances and workshops to deepen your understanding of this art form.

The Flamenco Dance Museum, which houses both a museum and a theatre, offers a complete flamenco experience.

Iconic neighbourhoods such as Triana, once known as the city’s Gypsy quarter, with its lively bars, theatres including Lope de Vega and Central, and the sculpture dedicated to Carmen are all places where you can experience the vibrant soul of flamenco.

Relax in the Arab baths

Aire Ancient Bath Séville

Like Granada and Córdoba, Seville also has Arab baths, known as “baños árabes” or hammams.

One of the best known is Aire Ancient Baths, located in the historic Santa Cruz district. These baths offer a unique relaxation experience in a beautifully restored historical setting, with hot and cold pools, steam baths and massages.

This is the perfect activity for adding relaxation and romance to your stay in Seville. You can immerse yourselves in the luxurious and soothing atmosphere of traditional baths while appreciating the city’s architecture and history.

Enjoy the Guadalquivir River

The Guadalquivir River is one of Seville’s main attractions. There are many ways to enjoy its banks and waters.

On foot

Walking along the banks of the Guadalquivir is both enjoyable and relaxing. Riverside promenades such as Paseo de Cristóbal Colón and Paseo de las Delicias offer magnificent views of the river and surrounding monuments. You can stop to admire the Torre del Oro, a historic landmark on the eastern bank, or cross the Puente de Isabel II, also known as Triana Bridge, to explore Triana.

By bicycle

For a more active experience, rent a bicycle and ride along the banks of the Guadalquivir. Seville has a well-developed network of approximately 140 kilometres of cycle lanes, allowing you to cycle safely beside the river. Bicycle rental services are available throughout the city. Routes along Paseo de la O and Avenida de Torneo offer wonderful views and easy access to the main attractions. Two of our guided cycling tours allow you to enjoy the river while also discovering the city.

Quadalquivir Séville

From a terrace

Enjoying an aperitif on a terrace overlooking the Guadalquivir is an ideal way to unwind. Numerous bars and restaurants along the river have terraces where you can enjoy tapas and drinks while admiring the view. Triana is particularly well known for its lively bars and restaurants offering picturesque river views.

By boat

A cruise along the Guadalquivir is a memorable experience. Several companies offer boat trips that allow you to discover Seville from the water. These cruises generally last around one hour and pass iconic landmarks such as the Torre del Oro, Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza and the city’s historic bridges. Some boats even serve dinner or aperitifs on board, adding a romantic touch to the trip. For the ultimate romantic experience, choose a private cruise with dinner and declare your love!

Water activities

More adventurous couples can also enjoy water activities on the Guadalquivir. Kayaks, paddleboards and pedal boats are available to hire, offering a unique view of the city from the water. It is a fun and active way to enjoy the river, particularly on sunny days.

Immerse yourselves in Sevillian culture

Seville has a rich and varied museum scene, with something to appeal to every interest, whether you love history, architecture or art.

For your romantic weekend in Seville, however, we have selected three museums with a particularly romantic atmosphere while still exploring different aspects of Andalusian culture.

1. Flamenco Dance Museum (Museo del Baile Flamenco)

Flamenco is a passionate expression of the Andalusian soul, and the Flamenco Dance Museum, founded by renowned dancer Cristina Hoyos, is dedicated to this intense and emotional art form. The museum features interactive exhibitions about the history and techniques of flamenco dancing, but the true magic lies in its live flamenco performances. Attending a show with your partner promises to be a deeply moving and romantic experience.

Musées Séville

2. Casa de Pilatos

Casa de Pilatos is a magnificent Renaissance palace combining Mudéjar, Gothic and Renaissance elements. Its peaceful gardens, patios decorated with fountains and rooms adorned with azulejos, or ceramic tiles, create an enchanting atmosphere. Wander through the palace, admire its works of art and relax in its gardens.

3. Andalusian Centre for Contemporary Art (Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo)

Housed in the former Monastery of La Cartuja, this museum focuses on Spanish and international contemporary art. The monastery’s vast spaces and gardens, together with its contemporary exhibitions, create a unique and inspiring setting for a visit as a couple. Exploring modern artworks, which are often provocative and emotionally powerful, will undoubtedly lead to deep conversations and shared moments.

Watch the sunset over the city

Depending on the season and time of day, there are several lovely places to watch the sunset in Seville.

1. The towers

Seville’s two famous towers, the Giralda and the Torre del Oro beside the Guadalquivir, offer panoramic views over the city.

2. Metropol Parasol (Las Setas)

Located on Plaza de la Encarnación, this modern structure has a rooftop viewpoint offering 360-degree views of Seville. Sunset from Las Setas is particularly impressive as the city is transformed beneath the changing colours of the sky. The only drawback is that admission has risen to €15 per person or €25 for two, while entry is free for residents of Seville. We find this rather excessive.

3. Triana Bridge (Puente de Isabel II)

Triana Bridge offers magnificent views of the Guadalquivir River and the city. The sunset colours reflected on the water, with the lively Triana district in the background, make it a popular place at this time of day.

5. Triana district

As you walk along Calle Betis on the western bank of the Guadalquivir, you will find numerous bars and restaurants with terraces overlooking the river and Seville’s historic centre. It is an excellent place to enjoy a drink while watching the sunset.

6. María Luisa Park and Plaza de España

María Luisa Park and Plaza de España are perfect for a late-afternoon walk. The lush gardens and magnificent architecture of Plaza de España take on a golden glow in the setting sun, providing an idyllic setting in which to end the day.

7. Alameda de Hércules

This lively neighbourhood, filled with bars and restaurants, is an excellent place to watch the sunset while enjoying tapas. The trees and sculptures around this large square create a unique atmosphere at dusk.

8. Rooftop bar terraces

Several hotel rooftop bars offer panoramic views over Seville. Places such as La Terraza del EME and Pura Vida Terraza at Hotel Doña María allow you to combine refined cocktails with breathtaking city views as the sun goes down.

Explore Seville by night

The largest Gothic cathedral in the world and its famous bell tower are beautifully illuminated at night. A walk around these monuments offers spectacular views of their majestic architecture. Although the interior of the Alcazar is closed at night, its illuminated outer walls create a mystical atmosphere.

Plaza de España, one of Seville’s most impressive squares, is particularly beautiful at night, with its illuminated bridges and canals reflecting light across the water.

Séville by night

If you feel like taking a romantic walk, a stroll beside the Guadalquivir is ideal. Views of illuminated bridges such as Triana Bridge, or Puente de Isabel II, are especially charming.

Another possibility is to wander through the narrow streets and hidden squares of the old Jewish quarter. They are magical at night, with their wrought-iron streetlights and small restaurant and bar terraces.

A guided tour at dusk through the authentic Barrio de Santa Cruz, which is slightly quieter and cooler in the evening, is the perfect way to end a beautiful day in Seville. Let yourselves be surprised by unusual corners and a few darker stories.

Which day trips can you take from Seville?

Seville has more than enough attractions to fill three or four days without needing to look elsewhere. If you choose one of our private guided tours, however, you will discover more in less time and may then feel like spending a day exploring beyond the city.

Discover the treasures of Córdoba

Cordoue

Despite being a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to the famous Mosque-Cathedral, whose origins date back to the 8th century, Córdoba remains relatively overlooked compared with its Andalusian neighbours, Seville and Granada. It is easy to reach by train in under 45 minutes. In our opinion, it is the most romantic of the three cities.

With its compact historic centre and picturesque streets, Córdoba offers an intimate and romantic atmosphere that contrasts with the bustle of Seville and Granada. The city is famous for its flower-filled patios, hidden gardens and shaded squares, creating charming corners wherever you turn. The Mosque-Cathedral, with its seemingly endless arches and peaceful courtyards, adds a sense of mystery and grandeur. The Jewish quarter, with its narrow streets and whitewashed houses, invites you to take peaceful walks hand in hand. Along the banks of the Guadalquivir, the riverside paths offer panoramic views of the city and its historic bridges.

This concentration of historic and romantic landmarks makes Córdoba an ideal destination for couples seeking a more intimate and romantic Andalusian experience.

Discover Ronda and the white villages

Explore one of Andalusia’s most famous white villages. Perched above a spectacular gorge, Ronda offers breathtaking views and a romantic atmosphere.

Walk across Puente Nuevo, visit the gardens of Casa del Rey Moro and enjoy a romantic dinner in a restaurant overlooking the landscape.

Ronda et villages blancs

You can also explore the white villages, or pueblos blancos, of the Sierra de Grazalema. Zahara de la Sierra, Setenil de las Bodegas and Grazalema are picturesque places that are perfect for a romantic escape. Enjoy the natural beauty, panoramic views and authenticity of these Andalusian villages.

Seville, with its captivating charm, cobbled streets and rich historical heritage, provides the perfect setting for an exciting and passionate romantic weekend.

As you wander through the lush Alcazar Gardens, marvel at the grandeur of the Cathedral and its Giralda, or share tapas in the lively streets of Santa Cruz, you will experience unforgettable moments together.

Romantic evenings beside the Guadalquivir, with breathtaking views of the Torre del Oro, will add a touch of magic to your getaway.

With its warm atmosphere and cultural treasures, Seville promises a romantic stay filled with discoveries and memories you will cherish forever.
