TREAT YOURSELF TO A ROMANTIC DINNER IN OSLO
Oslo’s diverse culinary scene and passion for both local and international cuisine make it a wonderful destination for food lovers. Whether you’re looking for traditional Norwegian specialties, flavours from around the world, or an intimate candlelit dinner, the Norwegian capital offers plenty of memorable dining experiences.
One thing worth knowing is that many restaurants in Oslo mainly open for dinner, reflecting local dining habits and the active daytime lifestyle of Norwegians. That said, you’ll also find excellent cafés, bistros, hotel restaurants, food halls and markets serving delicious lunches throughout the city. Whether you’re stopping for a light midday meal or enjoying an elegant evening dinner, Oslo’s culinary scene is well worth exploring.
As always, we’ve carefully selected a collection of romantic restaurants located in different districts across Oslo. Nyt måltidet, enjoy your meal!
Ansjosen
We begin our selection of romantic restaurants in Oslo with this charming Italian restaurant. Located just north of the historic centre, it’s only a few minutes away by tram.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, while the menu, although intentionally concise, focuses on generous dishes prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients.
We particularly recommend the beautifully marbled Norwegian ribeye steak, perfectly cooked and full of flavour.
Wine lovers will also appreciate the extensive wine list, and the knowledgeable staff will happily recommend the ideal pairing for your meal.
Please note that Ansjosen only serves dinner, from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm, and is closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Vinterhaven and Biblioteksbaren
Located in the heart of Oslo’s historic centre, just a short walk from the Paradox Museum and several beautiful gardens, Vinterhaven & Biblioteksbaren offers one of the city’s most elegant dining experiences.
Originally created as a tea salon when Hotel Bristol opened in the early 20th century, the venue still preserves its refined atmosphere today.
The architect drew inspiration from Morocco when designing the beautifully decorated Moorish-style rooms, an influence that can still be felt in both the décor and the restaurant’s impressive tea selection.
Tea is the house specialty, with carefully selected leaves sourced from around the world.
Alongside the excellent tea menu, the restaurant serves a varied selection of high-quality dishes. We particularly recommend saving room for one of the homemade desserts, perfectly accompanied by a cup of premium tea.
The restaurant is open 11:00 am to 9:00 pm Monday to Saturday, and 12:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sundays.
Brasserie Blanche
As its name suggests, Brasserie Blanche is a delightful French restaurant that proudly celebrates classic French cuisine.
Located in central Oslo, only a few minutes’ walk from the city’s Museum of Cultural History, it’s also close to the Royal Palace gardens, making it an ideal stop after sightseeing.
The restaurant occupies an elegant 18th-century building that originally served as a stable before being transformed into one of Oslo’s finest French dining establishments.
Its charming white façade, cosy lighting and beautifully decorated dining room create an intimate atmosphere, while fresh roses on every table add an extra romantic touch.
Mentioned in the Michelin Guide, Brasserie Blanche serves beautifully presented dishes prepared with great care and attention to detail.
The restaurant is open exclusively for dinner, from 5:00 pm to 11:00 pm daily, and 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Sundays.
1947 Gandhi Indisk Restaurant
Located in the lively Majorstuen district, famous for its impressive concentration of restaurants, 1947 Gandhi Indisk Restaurant is undoubtedly one of Oslo’s finest Indian dining experiences.
From the attentive service to the elegant décor and beautifully prepared dishes, everything has been designed to create an unforgettable evening.
The chef’s passion for Indian cuisine shines through every dish. We highly recommend the signature Kerala Chicken Fusion, one of the restaurant’s most celebrated creations.
The dishes are not only delicious but also visually spectacular, with some arriving dramatically flaming at your table.
A professional sommelier is available to recommend the perfect wine pairing.
The restaurant opens daily from 4:00 pm.
Bacchus Spiseri & Terrasse
Bacchus Spiseri & Terrasse is a cosy and intimate restaurant located in the historic Kirkeristen district, an area known for its traditional food market specialising in meat, fish and local produce.
With seating for just 26 guests, plus 14 additional places at the wine bar, this is one of Oslo’s most intimate dining venues.
The menu focuses on simple yet refined dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and delicate flavours that perfectly match the peaceful atmosphere.
Like many restaurants in Oslo, Bacchus opens only for dinner, generally from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm or midnight.
Restaurant Eik
Restaurant Eik is one of our personal favourites, thanks to its elegant soft pink décor and wonderfully romantic atmosphere.
The restaurant offers two refined four-course tasting menus, one of which is entirely vegan.
Guests may also request a reduced three-course version if they’d like to add one of the restaurant’s optional signature dishes, such as the superb Norwegian crayfish.
Each plate is beautifully presented, almost too pretty to eat.
Reservations are highly recommended, as Eik is only open Wednesday to Saturday from 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm.
Klosteret
Hidden just north of Oslo city centre, Klosteret is a true local gem, largely frequented by Oslo residents rather than tourists, making for a wonderfully authentic experience.
French-inspired cuisine is served in a beautiful vaulted stone cellar illuminated by soft candlelight, creating one of the city’s most romantic settings.
Ingredients are carefully sourced from environmentally responsible Norwegian producers.
Guests can choose between two tasting menus of three or five courses, including vegetarian and vegan options.
The excellent wine list perfectly complements the menu.
Open Tuesday to Saturday, 5:00 pm to 11:30 pm
Statholderens Mat og Vinkjeller
Located in Oslo’s historic centre inside the vaulted cellar of a magnificent 17th-century building, Statholderens Mat og Vinkjeller offers an intimate Michelin-recognised dining experience.
Often described as the “little sister” of Statholdergaarden, it serves a spectacular 10-course seasonal tasting menu showcasing the very best Norwegian ingredients.
The wine pairings are equally outstanding and elevate the experience even further.
Dinner service begins at 5:00 pm.
Statholdergaarden
Occupying the upper floors of the same historic building, Statholdergaarden is one of Oslo’s finest gastronomic restaurants.
Elegant dining rooms decorated with magnificent crystal chandeliers preserve much of the property’s 17th-century character.
Awarded one Michelin star, the restaurant serves refined modern Norwegian cuisine using seasonal local ingredients.
Every dish is beautifully plated and carefully crafted.
Dinner starts at 6:00 pm, and the restaurant is closed on Sundays.

Situated in the popular Majorstuen district, À l’Aise showcases the very best of French gastronomy in Oslo.
Awarded one Michelin star, the restaurant serves beautifully executed French cuisine with meticulous attention to detail.
The signature Prestige Menu features ten courses combining seafood, meat, cheeses and desserts.
Alternatively, guests may reserve the famous Pressed Duck Menu, which must be booked at least 48 hours in advance.
Open Wednesday to Saturday, 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
Advance reservations are strongly recommended.
Stallen
Located in the Hegdehaugen district, Stallen is another Michelin-starred destination that also holds a prestigious Michelin Green Star for its commitment to sustainability.
Guests may choose seats overlooking the open kitchen or enjoy a quieter table upstairs.
Reservations are essential, as tables are highly sought after.
One of the restaurant’s highlights is the interaction with both chefs and servers, who explain the ingredients and inspiration behind many of the dishes, making the experience particularly memorable.
Exceptional wine pairings are available, along with an equally impressive alcohol-free pairing.
Maaemo
We conclude our selection with what is, in our opinion, one of Oslo’s absolute culinary masterpieces.
Located in the historic Gamle Oslo district, close to the MUNCH Museum, Maaemo has been awarded three Michelin stars, placing it among the world’s finest restaurants.
The cuisine brilliantly combines Norwegian traditions with contemporary creativity, using exceptional local ingredients transformed into extraordinary gastronomic creations.
Each dish is a work of art, surprising guests with its textures, colours and imaginative presentation. Some arrive surrounded by edible flowers, while others resemble delicate nests hidden among fresh herbs.
For an unforgettable fine dining experience in Oslo, Maaemo is simply exceptional.
