Romantic Restaurants in Stockholm: Top 8 Places to Eat in 2026
Treat Yourself to a Romantic Dinner in Stockholm
Stockholm is an expensive city, and dining out is no exception. That’s why we’ve taken the time to carefully select restaurants based on two criteria: first, their location in the city’s main sightseeing districts, and second, three different budget categories, so there’s something for everyone.
For now, this selection focuses on Gamla Stan (Stockholm’s Old Town) and is designed to save you valuable time while planning your trip. We hope it helps you enjoy an unforgettable city break in Stockholm.
Källarbyn
A truly incredible and unusual place! You descend a staircase into what feels like a cave before discovering an eclectic venue filled with cosy corners, vintage furniture, quirky lamps, crocheted tablecloths, a bicycle hanging on the wall, a motorcycle and even rocking chairs.
Källarbyn is housed in a spectacular 500 m² vaulted cellar dating back to the 18th century. More than just an eco-café and restaurant, it also serves as an art gallery and concert venue featuring two stages, a grand piano and a regular programme of live performances.
The food is homemade and organic, offering simple yet flavourful dishes.
So… are you ready to head downstairs and discover this one-of-a-kind venue?
Stockholm Gastabud
Discover this charming restaurant serving traditional Swedish dishes such as marinated elk, herring and freshly grilled salmon.
Please note that reservations are not accepted, so you may have to wait for a table during busy periods.
A lovely bonus: the restaurant is located on a picturesque little street with very little traffic.
Tradition
Serving classic Nordic and European cuisine, the menu includes blood sausage, salmon, Sweden’s famous meatballs and Arctic char. Meat lovers will also appreciate premium cuts such as beef tenderloin for around €30.
We highly recommend trying the gravlax, which is absolutely delicious, followed by the triple chocolate terrine for dessert.
Be sure to book ahead, as the restaurant is often fully booked.
Kryp In
Two restaurants for the price of one! The owners operate two locations: one in Gamla Stan and another in Södermalm, so you can choose whichever suits your itinerary.
Both welcome guests in a cosy rustic-chic atmosphere. In the Old Town restaurant, you can either order à la carte or choose a three-course set menu for SEK 529 (around €46).
Restaurant C C
If you’re a fan of game meat and authentic Swedish cuisine, this restaurant offers a compact but carefully curated menu featuring specialties such as reindeer, elk, venison and, when legally available during the hunting season, even bear meat.
Gluten-free Swedish meatballs are also available.
Our recommendation? Start with the mushroom soup before enjoying either the elk or the wild boar.
Ardberg Embassy
A wonderfully original pub where you can enjoy dishes such as elk carpaccio as a starter followed by a gourmet burger.
The menu also features beef tartare, caviar and reindeer steak.
Fun fact: the pub is named after the famous whisky distillery, which explains why it boasts an impressive selection of around 400 different single malt whiskies alongside 24 Swedish craft beers on tap.
Pelikan
This iconic brasserie has been welcoming guests for well over a century and simply couldn’t be left off our list.
Located on the Södermalm peninsula, its distinctive décor creates an instantly warm and authentic historic Swedish atmosphere.
Traditional Swedish cuisine is the star of the menu, and you absolutely shouldn’t miss their famous Swedish meatballs served with lingonberry jam.
Guests with food allergies have praised the restaurant for its professional and accommodating staff, so don’t hesitate to mention any dietary requirements when booking.
Fem Sma Hus
Vaulted stone cellars, white tablecloths and candlelight… what could be more romantic for dinner?
This restaurant offers over 500 years of history. As early as 1694, a woman was already running an illegal tavern here. Today, nine historic dining rooms spread across five charming old buildings welcome guests for a refined meal featuring Swedish cuisine with elegant French influences.
