TREAT YOURSELF TO A ROMANTIC DINNER IN ECHTERNACH

Nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Luxembourg, Echternach offers a dining experience full of charm and tradition. As the oldest town in the Grand Duchy, it is renowned not only for its rich historical heritage but also for its authentic local cuisine that delights visitors seeking genuine regional flavours.

Echternach’s gastronomy showcases fresh local ingredients and recipes deeply rooted in Luxembourgish culinary traditions. From hearty meat specialties and regional produce to indulgent homemade desserts, every dish reflects the richness of the area’s culinary heritage.

Whether you’re looking for a traditional Luxembourgish meal in a historic inn, creative cuisine in a contemporary restaurant, or an alfresco dinner on a charming terrace, Echternach promises a memorable culinary experience for couples looking for romance.

La Grappe d’Or

La Grappe d'or

This elegant restaurant is located right in the heart of Echternach and offers a cosy yet refined atmosphere, perfect for a romantic dinner.

The chef creates fresh, colourful dishes beautifully presented with sophisticated plating that instantly whets the appetite.

When booking, ask for either a table beneath the stone vault away from the bar or a quiet table by the window.

Grimougi

Restaurant Grimougi

Located close to the German border on the opposite side of Echternach near the Sûre River, this restaurant offers a peaceful setting.

Its extensive menu is prepared using fresh market produce and includes risottos, grilled fish and meat, as well as half a dozen salads, including the house salad with garlic scampi, salmon and crayfish.

When making your reservation, request a table away from the entrance, or enjoy the lovely terrace during the warmer months.

Lakeside

Enjoy a relaxing meal surrounded by idyllic scenery overlooking Lake Echternach. From the town centre, simply take buses 212, 261 or 262 and get off at Nonnemillen/Lac, just a few minutes later. Alternatively, it’s a pleasant 15-minute walk via Rue des Romains.

You’ll almost certainly be joined by the local wildlife, including ducks, geese and swans—among them a particularly impressive giant goose that often sunbathes on the lawn near the restaurant.

The restaurant offers both a fine dining menu and a brasserie menu, with a more refined selection available in the evening. Two tasting menus are available from €72. The brasserie menu also features a daily special as well as a selection of tapas to share, which we particularly like.

After your meal, don’t miss a leisurely stroll around the lake, crossing its charming little bridges and admiring the romantic waterfront houses.

Les Jardins Gourmands

Les Jardins Gourmands

Hotel restaurants are often overlooked, yet they can be wonderful surprises—and this one certainly is. It is set within a beautiful green park.

The restaurant serves refined, flavourful cuisine presented with great care. We recommend trying the “Tentations de Midi” lunch menu, the revisited Feierstengszalot, or one of the seasonal game dishes.

The elegant dining room is complemented in summer by a magnificent terrace offering panoramic views over the hotel’s park.

From Echternach, simply take bus 211 or 191, which reaches the hotel in around 5 minutes, or enjoy a scenic 30-minute walk along the Sûre River.

Restaurant l’Iris

Looking for excellent food in a relaxed atmosphere? This is the place.

Although it’s not the most romantic restaurant in our selection, and the indoor tables can sometimes feel a little close together, the terrace is delightful during the summer, tucked away in one of Echternach’s charming little streets.

The cuisine combines Luxembourgish, French and Portuguese influences.

The weekday lunch menu (Tuesday to Friday) is excellent value at €16, while the chef’s specials are more adventurous, including Portuguese-style baked octopus, venison stew and scampi pasta.

Restaurant Wang Chef

Located just outside the town centre on Rue de la Gare, this Asian restaurant is widely considered one of, if not the best in Echternach.

The beautifully presented dishes are as pleasing to the eye as they are to the palate.

The restaurant offers an excellent set menu with a choice of either four different dishes or a sushi menu, which we think is a fantastic option. Of course, à la carte dining is also available, but the set menus offer great value.

Au Vieux Moulin

Au Vieux Moulin

If you’re looking for a truly special dining experience, head to this elegant restaurant set in lush green surroundings, less than 20 minutes on foot southwest of the Roman Villa and close to Lake Echternach, which is also worth visiting along with its informative museum.

This is one of Luxembourg’s Michelin-starred restaurants. Come here to indulge yourself while enjoying a peaceful and bucolic setting. A seasonal discovery menu is available for under €100.

As with all fine dining restaurants, the menu changes regularly, so it’s worth checking that it appeals to you before your visit. The cuisine focuses on sustainable ingredients and also features seasonal game.

For lunch, consider the excellent Market Menu, served from Wednesday lunchtime to Friday evening, including an amuse-bouche, starter, main course and dessert for under €60. Afterwards, you can enjoy a relaxing walk around the lake.

If travelling by public transport, take buses 212, 261 or 262 from Echternach Centre de Secours, get off four stops later at Lauterborn, then walk the remaining 400 metres.

You can also stay overnight here, as the property also operates as a hotel.
