Salpoente

Salpoente Restaurant

The Salpoente Restaurant is a place where romance meets gastronomy in a historic waterfront setting at Cais de São Roque. Winner of numerous awards, the restaurant is housed inside two former salt warehouses, giving it a truly unique atmosphere.

Inside, Salpoente perfectly blends history and contemporary elegance. Exposed stone walls and wooden beams preserve the building’s heritage, while the refined modern décor creates an elegant setting. Soft lighting and well-spaced tables provide an intimate atmosphere that’s perfect for a romantic dinner.

As for the food… we couldn’t help laughing at one automatic translation that described one dish as a “creamy seaweed bra”! Thankfully, the real menu is much more appetising. Let yourself be surprised by the Chef’s Surprise Menu, indulge in the €80 tasting menu or the vegetarian tasting menu, or simply order à la carte. Don’t miss the local eel or the traditional fish massada. If you’re visiting during the low season, the executive lunch menus offer excellent value, ranging from €16 to €35.

The restaurant also enjoys beautiful views over the canal, becoming especially magical after sunset when the lights shimmer across the water. It’s the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or simply enjoy an unforgettable evening together.

Subenshi Sushi

Located on the banks of the Cojo Canal, Subenshi is guaranteed to surprise you with its truly unique setting. The restaurant features an original décor, including a traditional moliceiro boat suspended from the ceiling, while many dishes are served in colourful moliceiro-shaped containers.

Another impressive feature is its three aquariums, including what is said to be the largest aquarium ever installed inside a restaurant in Europe.

There are two dining rooms: one with a more relaxed atmosphere and another that’s quieter and more intimate. Naturally, you’ll want to request the latter when making your reservation.

The cuisine combines Japanese flavours with Portuguese influences, creating a memorable and creative dining experience. Stylish, elegant and original, Subenshi is an excellent choice for couples looking for something a little different.

Set aboard a floating barge, the restaurant boasts breathtaking panoramic views over the salt pans and surrounding natural landscapes. From your table, you’ll even be able to watch the traditional moliceiro boats glide by.

The interior is modern and elegant, with floor-to-ceiling windows ensuring stunning views whatever the season.

The menu focuses on contemporary Portuguese cuisine, highlighting fresh local ingredients, especially fish and seafood. Start with fresh Aveiro oysters before trying the Lagaeiro octopus, the Aveiro-style cataplana, or the national red prawn (Carabiniero Nacional).

Whether you visit for a sunny lunch or a romantic sunset dinner, Laguna offers an unforgettable atmosphere that makes it a perfect venue for a special occasion or simply an exceptional meal together.

This charming pink-themed café and bakery, with its cosy atmosphere, has become one of Aveiro’s must-visit addresses for anyone with a sweet tooth. But don’t let the pastries fool you—it also serves an excellent selection of savoury dishes. Its “Brunch All Day” concept is simply perfect. At M Bakery, the experience is just as important as the food itself.

Pink walls, comfortable chairs and floral details create a warm, Instagram-worthy setting where you’ll happily linger for hours.

Their slogan proudly celebrates their delicious cakes—and for good reason. The display is filled with beautifully decorated layer cakes, cupcakes and irresistible pastries, all perfect with a coffee or tea.

The savoury menu is equally tempting. One of their signature dishes is the famous Eggs in a Croissant, a freshly baked buttery croissant filled with perfectly cooked eggs and often accompanied by ham, cheese or other tasty ingredients. The combination of textures and flavours makes it one of the city’s most popular brunch dishes—and our personal favourite.

Flower Garden

Pink Inside & Out!

Opened in 2024, Flower Garden immediately brings to mind the charming pink bakery mentioned above. Floral wallpaper, a spectacular giant tree covered with bright fuchsia blossoms and cascading green plants create a glamorous and wonderfully romantic atmosphere.

Located just steps from the Art Nouveau Museum, it’s impossible to miss thanks to its eye-catching candy-pink façade.

The restaurant serves traditional Portuguese meat and fish dishes at very affordable prices. We recommend sharing the seafood and fish massada, or, if you’re a meat lover, choosing the grilled meat platter featuring three different cuts served with vegetables and fries

Located inside Aveiro’s Congress Centre, Olaria Restaurant stands out thanks to its unique setting and fascinating history. Housed in a former ceramic factory, the restaurant has preserved much of its industrial heritage while offering a refined contemporary dining experience.

Original architectural features—including exposed brick walls, steel beams and large factory windows—have been carefully retained, creating a space that feels both authentic and elegant. The industrial character is softened by warm contemporary décor in delicate pastel tones, resulting in a stylish yet comfortable atmosphere.

The cuisine blends traditional Portuguese flavours with modern culinary techniques. Expect local favourites such as Chanfana (slow-cooked lamb stew), Francesinha, fish cataplana, and many other Portuguese specialities.

Olaria successfully combines a relaxed atmosphere with sophisticated dining, paying tribute to its industrial past while embracing an innovative culinary future
