We begin this selection of Riga’s most romantic restaurants with one of the city’s most unusual dining experiences.
Located just a few metres from Riga Cathedral, one of the city’s must-see landmarks, Lāsīte transports guests back to the Middle Ages.
Inside you’ll dine beneath impressive stone vaults surrounded by animal hides, medieval weapons and authentic décor, while enjoying dishes inspired by genuine medieval recipes.
The food is excellent, prepared with fresh local ingredients and beautifully presented. Prices are very reasonable and the generous portions make it outstanding value for money.
Traditional live music is regularly performed, and during summer you can also enjoy the large outdoor terrace.
Skyline Bar
The Skyline Bar certainly lives up to its name. Perched high above the city, it offers breathtaking panoramic views across Riga, including Brīvības Iela (Freedom Street) leading towards the famous Freedom Monument.
For a quieter, more romantic atmosphere, we recommend arriving before the evening rush.
The bar is best known for its creative cocktails featuring exotic flavour combinations, alongside an extensive selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
You can also enjoy excellent food, including seared tuna tataki, Korean fried chicken or a fresh and healthy poke bowl.
John
Located close to the Daugava River and beside Viesturdārzs, Riga’s oldest park with more than 300 years of history, John offers an entirely different atmosphere from the previous restaurants.
The restaurant takes its name from the fact that the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy, stayed here in 1939.
Recommended by the Michelin Guide, John serves refined contemporary cuisine at surprisingly reasonable prices considering the quality and creativity of its dishes.
Guests can order from an extensive à la carte menu or enjoy breakfast from a wide selection of options. At lunchtime, a three-course menu including coffee is available for around €45.
Burzujs
Just a two-minute walk from Vērmanes Garden, Riga’s oldest public park, Burzujs is a stylish contemporary restaurant that’s perfect for a romantic meal. The park itself is home to numerous sculptures and monuments, making it a lovely place for a stroll before or after dinner.
The restaurant also features an attractive outdoor terrace, which we highly recommend. Be sure to book in advance, as it’s often fully booked.
Oysters are the stars of the menu here, with a dedicated oyster bar and an impressive selection. If seafood isn’t your favourite, don’t worry—the menu also offers excellent meat, fish and vegetarian dishes.
Neiburgs
Located directly opposite Riga Cathedral, Neiburgs is the fine dining restaurant of the luxury hotel bearing the same name. As hotel guests dine here regularly, advance reservations are highly recommended.
Listed in the Michelin Guide, the restaurant serves elegant contemporary cuisine made with fresh, seasonal ingredients.
The à la carte menu features a wide variety of original dishes, while the seven-course tasting menu (€60) offers an excellent introduction to the chef’s cuisine.
For lunch, there’s also a great weekday offer: soup and a main course for just €14, available Wednesday to Friday from noon until 3 pm.
Kaļķu Vārti
Even closer to Riga Cathedral, Kaļķu Vārti combines historic charm with modern elegance.
The dining rooms beautifully mix exposed stone walls and aged wooden furniture with contemporary lighting and velvet chairs, creating a warm yet sophisticated atmosphere.
It’s one of the best places in Riga if you’re looking for outstanding value for money.
The cuisine leans towards fine dining, with beautifully plated dishes that impressed us as much visually as they did in flavour. Every plate is colourful, refined and carefully presented.
Kolonāde
Just 100 metres from the Latvian National Opera, overlooking Bastejkalns Park, Kolonāde occupies a beautiful historic building dating back to the early 20th century.
Originally transformed in 1924 as the entrance to Riga’s most prestigious commercial venue, the building became the elegant fine dining restaurant it is today in 2014.
The cuisine is refined, creative and beautifully presented. Highlights include the beef tartare with marinated mushrooms and capers, as well as yellowfin tuna steak served with avocado and smoked pepper purée.
For dessert, don’t miss the rich chocolate fondant served with blackcurrant ice cream.
Mio
Located in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, close to museums, parks and the tram line, Mio is considered by many to be the city’s most romantic restaurant.
From the moment you arrive, charming lanterns welcome you before you step inside a cosy, intimate dining room filled with warm lighting and romantic décor.
Although there’s a small terrace overlooking the street, we’d recommend requesting one of the indoor tables near the fireplace for a truly intimate dinner.

Perched on the 11th floor of the elegant Bellevue Park Hotel, Le Sommet offers spectacular panoramic views over Riga and the Daugava River.
Although it’s slightly outside the Old Town, the nearby tram takes you into the historic centre within minutes.
Inside, the spacious dining room features elegant beige and black décor with floor-to-ceiling windows. If the weather is nice, however, the outdoor terrace is undoubtedly the best choice.
The menu focuses on colourful, beautifully presented dishes with fresh flavours and refined simplicity.
Domini Canes
Back in the heart of Riga’s Old Town, Domini Canes enjoys a prime location just behind St. Peter’s Church, one of the city’s most iconic landmarks with more than 800 years of history.

The menu focuses on European cuisine while showcasing several traditional Latvian specialities, including slow-roasted Latvian pork ribs. Every dish is freshly prepared using locally sourced ingredients, and we especially loved the colourful, summery presentation.
Whitehouse Apicus
Previously known as Bibliotēka No.1, one of Riga’s best-known restaurants, Whitehouse has welcomed guests under its new name since 2020. Recommended by the Michelin Guide, it has quickly become one of the city’s most sought-after dining destinations among both locals and visitors.
The interior is sleek and contemporary, dominated by black tones and stylish modern furnishings. However, we highly recommend reserving a table on the terrace, where you’ll enjoy beautiful views over the flower beds of Vērmanes Garden.
The menu combines European cuisine with subtle Asian influences, creating original and elegant dishes full of flavour.
Le Dome Restaurant
Housed inside a magnificent building dating back more than 400 years, Le Dome Restaurant forms part of the luxurious Le Dome Hotel.
Also featured in the Michelin Guide, the restaurant specialises in refined seafood cuisine, including lobster and a selection of freshly prepared fish, while also offering excellent meat dishes.
Chef Rolands Striguns has created two tasting menus inspired by… French gastronomy. Guests can choose between a five-course menu (€90) or a seven-course experience (€120).
For the most memorable evening, reserve a table on the rooftop terrace overlooking the Daugava River.

Chef Max Cekot has built his reputation around bold flavours, artistic presentation and an exceptional level of attention to detail. The elegant dining room and impeccable service create one of the finest gastronomic experiences in Latvia.
The restaurant serves an exclusive 10-course tasting menu, including a vegetarian version. Many of the vegetables come directly from the restaurant’s own kitchen garden, ensuring exceptional freshness throughout the menu.
Exclusivity is part of the concept. The restaurant is only open three evenings a week, from Thursday to Saturday, making advance reservations absolutely essential.
For an even more memorable experience, you can reserve the Chef’s Table, where you’ll watch your meal being prepared right before your eyes. This premium experience costs around €350, compared with approximately €200 for the standard tasting menu.
