The Copper Room
A superb wine bar with a unique interior and an intimate atmosphere, perfect for unwinding over a glass of wine beneath softly glowing lights.
Strictly speaking, it isn’t a restaurant, although you can enjoy an authentic Swiss fondue, which certainly counts as a meal!
The menu also features beautifully presented cheese and charcuterie boards, baked Camembert, tortillas, bruschetta, fresh fruit and, of course, the house speciality: traditional Swiss fondue.
The venue is full of charm and opens daily from 5 pm until late. It’s the ideal place for a leisurely aperitif where you can build your own cheese and charcuterie board and pair it with wines from France, Italy, Spain, Argentina, New Zealand and beyond before heading to one of Limerick’s romantic restaurants for dinner.
The Cornstore
Located in the heart of Limerick, just a short stroll from the famous Milk Market, The Cornstore offers a wonderfully cosy atmosphere with velvet armchairs and elegant upholstered seating.

The restaurant is only open for dinner on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, so booking well in advance is highly recommended.
The Savoy Terrace
There’s very little that feels traditionally Irish about this elegant restaurant, as its inspiration comes largely from classic French cuisine.
Calling itself a brasserie, it serves seafood platters, oysters, steak and chips, lobster, beef bourguignon and many other French favourites, all accompanied by Champagne and an excellent selection of French wines.
When making your reservation, ask for a table at the back overlooking the River Shannon for an even more romantic dining experience.
The Waterfront restaurant
Located inside the Clayton Hotel on the banks of the River Shannon, The Waterfront offers one of the loveliest sunset settings in the city. Enjoying a drink on the outdoor terrace as the sun goes down is particularly memorable.
Inside, the restaurant is bright and comfortable. If you’re dining here, request a table beside the floor-to-ceiling windows to make the most of the river views.
Harry’s on the River
Harry’s is the restaurant of the Absolute Hotel, which we also recommend as an excellent place to stay during your city break in Limerick.
Whether you’re staying at the hotel or simply visiting for a meal, the restaurant welcomes guests throughout the day for breakfast, lunch or dinner in a bright dining room overlooking the River Shannon.
River Bar restaurant
Located inside The Strand Hotel, which we also recommend for its excellent central location, River Bar Restaurant boasts spectacular panoramic views across both the city and the River Shannon through its impressive floor-to-ceiling windows.
The chef focuses on fresh local produce and has created a special Taste the Place menu celebrating regional farmers and artisan producers.
Recognised as one of the best restaurants in Limerick, it has earned an AA Rosette and won the Best Hotel Irish Breakfast Menu award at the Georgina Campbell Irish Breakfast Awards 2020.
The breakfast buffet is excellent, although at €17 we found it slightly expensive.
The French Table
Here’s another little taste of France should you ever feel homesick.
Beautifully situated beside the River Shannon, The French Table serves a lunchtime menu alongside a more extensive evening menu.
Prices remain very reasonable for a quality French brasserie, with traditional dishes such as cassoulet, seasonal venison stew, pithivier and many other French classics.
If the lunch menu suits you, it’s excellent value. Otherwise, we recommend visiting in the evening, when you’ll enjoy a much wider choice. Expect to pay around €30 for two courses or €38 for three courses.
East Room
East Room is Limerick’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, led by a chef who was born and raised locally, making it a genuine showcase of Irish fine dining.
The restaurant occupies the magnificent 18th-century Plassey House. Originally built in Georgian style in 1790 for the Maunsell family, it was later rebuilt in the 1870s in an Italianate style by the Russell family, founders of the famous Russell Mills.
Once home to wealthy industrialists and military officers, the building now forms part of the University of Limerick’s campus.
The gourmet lunch menu costs €39, while evening tasting menus and à la carte dining range between €65 and €70, making this Michelin-starred experience surprisingly affordable.
Before or after your meal, take time to admire the university’s impressive Visual Art Collections, featuring works by renowned Irish artists including Mainie Jellett, Evie Hone, Paul Henry and Jack B. Yeats.
Sash Restaurant
Sash is the restaurant of the luxurious No.1 Pery Square Hotel, another excellent accommodation option for a romantic city break in Limerick.
It is located in Limerick’s elegant Georgian Quarter, one of Ireland’s finest preserved collections of 18th- and 19th-century Georgian architecture.
Situated on the opposite side of the city from East Room, the restaurant is close to several attractions including the Limerick People’s Museum, People’s Park and the Limerick City Gallery of Art, making it easy to combine sightseeing with a romantic meal.
Even if you don’t dine here, it’s well worth stopping for a drink or one of the many cocktails served on the terrace during the warmer months.
